Gorgeous locations, controlled conditions
Auckland is blessed with a wide range of gorgeous locations for photography - beaches, parks, forests, and city scenes. We've explored a whole lot of them and would be more than happy to suggest a few for your session. One thing we can't control - the weather! For this reason, we can set aside an extra date as a backup in case it's raining or too windy on the day, so we can ensure the best outcome for your photos.

Siobhan’s editing style focuses on true-to-life colours and subtle enhancements to highlight the beauty of your family and the natural surroundings. With an extensive editing skillset, we are happy to help touch up skin imperfections, smooth double chins, and soften tired eyes.

I love family sessions - especially when I get to see them over again! This family comes to see me every year, and it's a pleasure to watch the kids grow up and enjoy time together.
This family came up from the South island for some family photos together before their newest addition arrived. We were spoilt with a stunning sunset at Muriwai beach!
Studio photo shoot, or an outdoor adventure?
We LOVE celebrating families and watching them grow year after year. For family sessions, we have two options. We can take the kids outside, where we choose one of the city's best parks or beaches to use as the backdrop of your family photography session, or we can organise indoor family portraits with our family photographer in our Auckland studio if you are looking for something a little more formal.

Perfect for little explorers with loads of energy! Whether it's a park, the beach, or in your neck of the woods, getting outside brings a little magic to family photography.
Our sessions are all about authenticity. No fake smiles (we've got plenty of tricks to get your kids - and your husbands - laughing), plenty of natural play, and an easy-going approach that ensures everyone's personalities shine through.
Worried about the weather? Don't be! Believe it or not, the best photos are taken with a bit of cloud cover, and we've even had some stellar results in-between patches of rain. However, if the forecast really isn't playing ball, we can always reschedule your family portraits or choose a covered location.

Studio Sessions
If you're looking for award-winning family portraits that are a little more formal, or have tiny little ones who aren't yet ready to play outside, a studio session may be perfect for you. Neutral backgrounds, gorgeous props, and the ability to get a bit artsy - if that's your style!
Pets are welcome too - we would love to meet your fur baby! More about pet sessions here.
These sessions typically take somewhere between half an hour to an hour, depending on how many little faces we have to photograph. Check out our studio to find out what you can expect.

Auckland Family Photographer FAQs
When should I book?
The more notice you can give us, the better! We do tend to book up (especially during weekends), so if you're thinking of coming for a family photoshoot, do let us know and we will do our best to find you a spot.
How long do sessions take?
Family photography usually takes about an hour - long enough to take a walk around the park and explore. It's usually a little shorter for studio sessions. Having said that, there's no real time limit so there's no need to worry about not getting the perfect shot in time.
What can I expect during the session?
With over eight years of family photography experience, here at Siobhan Kelly Photography we know what we doing and have a tried and tested workflow. If we're outdoors, we'll start heading off for a walk, watching to see what the kids want to do (if they're happy, the photos look great!). We will stop and start throughout the walk, making the most of each location, snacking and playing as we go. Don't worry at all if you're feeling nervous - we have plenty of tricks to tame toddlers and children and to make you (naturally) smile.
When you book in with us, we will also send you a session guide, so you know exactly what to wear, what to bring, and what to expect.
I saw this photo with a prop I love...
Bowls, baskets, headbands, hats... if they belongs to the studio (most things do, unless they were brought in specifically by clients) - you're welcome to use them in your session too! Feel free to ask ahead of time and we can make sure to incorporate it in your family photography session. Having said that, if you have anything special you'd like to include, feel free to bring it along too.
